Auto-renew scam. Unhelpful support. Unauthorized charges.
|
I signed up for a subscription with ChristianMingle.com, and immediately turned off the auto-renew feature (as I do with any online subscription site). Noticed that my credit card had a charge on it from the company at the time when my subscription auto-renew would have kicked in. Logged into the website to find that the auto-renew option was enabled again. Immediately emailed them (even while the charge was still just an "authorization" and not posted to my CC account) to let them know of the situation, and they told me that auto-renew was never disabled on my account, nor were there any records of attempts to do so. Told me I would have to prove that I turned it off by sending them the confirmation email. Of course, I don't have such and email, but I do know for sure that I did, in fact, turn off the auto-renew. Asked for a refund, and was told "sorry"... Was given some basic form letter response about how I was told numerous times when I signed up that there is a no refund policy and basically it was just too bad. Called them to see if I could get a more reasonable response from a human being, but was told exactly the same (it was basically read to me off a form letter). Very disappointed in their total lack of interest in understanding and resolving a situation. Never really used or liked the service, either. Will be pursuing this further, as I believe they are being dishonest and unreasonable considering the situation. I just wish I had read the thousands of very negative reviews that can be found all over the web before I let them have my financial information! I've read other reviews on the trustlink site, and would love to have a resolution in the form of a refund from the company, rather than a form letter "sorry it's your fault and not ours" response like all the other reviewers have received on this site.

We regret this consumer’s dissatisfaction with our site and disappointment in our refund policies. We are a subscription-based organization with a stated automatic renewal, depending on purchase plan. These details are stated in many locations on the site: the subscription purchase page, the upgrade confirmation page, the account page, the billing history, and in a confirmation email. The Terms of Purchase state: "By submitting this purchase, Purchaser hereby acknowledges, agrees and authorizes site to renew Purchaser's subscription automatically every month, at the guaranteed renewal rate that applies to the purchase option chosen by Purchaser, until such time as Purchaser instructs site to stop the renewals. Renewals can be stopped by logging in as a member and clicking on Member Services.”
