The January ad had the car listed a “Certified” car and as “Extra Clean”. My understanding of “Certified” is that the car was never damaged and was never in an accident.



Later Friday night while reviewing the paperwork including the Carfax, I noticed the car was in Accident with damage reported. I immediately called. They said that they missed this item on the Carfax report. They also said after a review that the damage was minor. I asked to talk to the person who was involved in the accident to help me determine the seriousness of the damage. They refused to give me the person’s name. I asked for a copy of the body shop report. They said that unfortunately the body shop report was misplaced. How could they determine the damage was minor without the backup documentation?

Again we found out that we were getting lies from SM Acura.

A “Certified” car cannot be sold if it was in an accident But SM Acura did.

When asked if the car was in an accident, SM Acura said it was not.

Consumers should be put on notice about the bad behavior of SM Acura.

We offer a free CarFax on all of our vehicles listed for sale at no charge to our clients. An accident report listed on a CarFax does not disqualify a car from being certified. A vehicle goes thru a 150-point inspection and is determined Certified based on meeting a list of criteria that can only be determined thru a Certified Acura Technician. More often than not, individuals elect to not go thru insurance in order to not have an alert posted on a CarFax report. Regardless if an accident report is reported or not a car must qualify for Certification and this vehicle did. Unfortunately the clients request to provide personal information of the person who was involved in the accident is not possible for the obvious privacy concerns of that individual. Further as we are confident in our product, we offered to Howard B. the opportunity to take the vehicle to any body shop if he was concerned about damages or wanted a second opinion with no obligation to purchase the vehicle. The client declined.
