I had a flood in our house that damaged half the hardwoods and all of the carpet. I purchased new carpet and padding from Royal and paid them to install the carpet and the wood flooring. I purchased the flooring from someone else in order to match the wood. I chose Royal instead of the vendor that I purchased the wood from b/c of their solid reputation. The original vendor I wasn't comfortable with as the quality of work was very poor.
Once the boxes of wood were delivered Royal quickly came to the house and installed the wood in one day. The quality of the installation was much better than the original flooring and you could tell a difference immediately. The wood was much tighter and perfectly floated. However the installers failed to realize that the wood from the boxes was the wrong product. We didn't realize that the wood was a matte finish instead of high gloss like the rest of the flooring until it was installed. Once it was glued down it was too late. I believe the installers should have caught this and immediately stopped the installation. Half way through my wife mentioned that it looked differently (I was at work) and was told it always looks that way at first by the installers.
After calling the owner and having him come out to see the wood he immediately recognized the mistake. He wouldn't take full blame for the installation as he told me he was just hired to install what I gave him. However after a few conversations he did agree to half the cost of the repair. We hired someone else to refinish that portion of the wood and it now looks great.
The carpet is great also and I have zero issues w/ that installation.
In general its tough to find quality contractors in Farmington and even harder to find ones that are reputable and fair. While I believe Royal should have immediately caught that the wood wasn't a match I certainly commend them on the quality of both installations. I also appreciate their ownership in a part of the issue and their honesty in sharing in the cost. The company I purchased the wood from and wouldn't let install it has been far from as easy to deal with. They've refused to pay for any portion of the fix and have been a major problem. That is exactly the reason I went w/ Royal and even though it wasn't perfect I'd do it again.
The only other comment on Royal that I have is that they are quite expensive. Likely it is because as one of the few if not only good flooring companies in the area they can charge a high premium for their services. As most of you know you tend to get what you pay for. While the Royal folks are good strictly given the high premium on their services if I heard of another reputable flooring company I'd give them a look next time. However if there are no others w/ a good reputation then Royal is a safe yet expensive bet.
