Inter City Plumbing was assigned to perform repairs covered under my Home Warranty plan. The repairs included fixing the leaking water heater and leaking toilet.
I also had a bathroom facet that was dripping, but was not covered under the home warranty. The facet is less than two years old and needs a new spring and gasket. I personally can perform the repair in less than 15 minutes. The parts cost less than a dollar.
I ask Gina, the office secretary, to provide me with a quote to perform the repair on the facet. Gina stated she could not give me a quote over the phone; their technician would have to look at it first. She said they would probably charge a service fee of $90, plus a fee for the repair work. I told Gina I would not pay for a service call or a lot of money for the repair, because the technician will already be at the house and I can personally perform the repair in less than 15 minutes. The parts cost less than a dollar. I asked Gina if I could speak to the owner or technician before Inter City Plumbing came to my house to perform the repairs. She stated I could not speak to the owner or technician prior to them performing the service call. I told Gina, and she agreed to have the technician to call me when he is at the house and give me a quote to repair the facet.
The technician came to the house, while I was at work. The technician performed the repair work, including the facet. The technician did not call me and provide me with a quote, as previously agreed to by Gina, Inter City Plumbing, and myself. The facet repair was performed without my authorization.
The next day, I received a phone message from Gina, secretary at Inter City Plumbing, stating she needed my credit card information. She told me I owed the company $93 for the repair work on the facet. I told her our agreement was to have the technician call me and provide me with a quote, so I could determine if I would have them perform the work or I would repair the facet myself. I told Inter City Plumbing, the technician never called me with a quote and to get me approval for the work. Consequently, the work on the facet was not authorized and the charge is unreasonable; consequently, I am not liable for the bill.
In addition to the aforementioned problems, Gina’s demeanor from the first phone call was uncooperative, demonstrated poor customer service and relations. If the company was not assigned to me by the home warranty company, I would have never let them perform work on my house. Now, I am warning everyone I meet to avoid this company. The home warranty company is also aware of their poor customer service and unscrupulous business practices.
